I have been looking around for wireless earphones for quite sometime and Sudio has been on my radar multiple times. I hit the gym a lot so a wireless earphones has always been a must have and I’ve recently been using SonicGear’s EarPump Studio V as my go to wireless headphones. I actually got a Sudio Tre for as a gift for someone just to try out the quality of their earphones and was really impressed by the quality and design. So when Sudio emailed me awhile back asking to try out their one of their newest earphones, I was really excited to check it out and take it for a thorough test try. Honestly I have been keeping tabs on this earphones as I was looking for an alternative to the bulky wireless headphones that I carry around.
I’m going to be reviewing it on 4 different aspects based on my daily use which is Aesthetics, Connectivity, Sound and Convenience
Aesthetic
The packaging standard Sudio design, it’s minimalistic and pleasing to look at, once you open the box there’s a round plastic case which holds the earphones and it also doubles up as the earphones charger, in the box there is a Micro USB charger, user manual, documents and also extra earbuds in case the one on the earphones do not fit snug into you ear. The design of the earphones is actually really nice and small and does not protrude out of your ear. My favourite part of the case is that it has magnets that keep the earphones in place so you won’t have to worry about them falling out if you decide to put them into your bag with all your other stuffs. There is also a button on the earphones which allows you to play, pause and skip songs or open up Siri, but the buttons are not configurable so you won’t be able to map other functions for the buttons.
Connectivity
From my unboxing video you can see that the pairing process on this thing is crazy quick and throughout my day I did not have any problems connecting to my device, as long as my Bluetooth on my phone is on the earphones connect almost instantly. To connect your earphones all you have to do is press on both buttons for 3 seconds and it will automatically connect to your phone if your Bluetooth is on. The only problem you might encounter is that if you only have one hand available and that could be abit troublesome as you’ll have to press the buttons one by one.
Sound
Personally I listen to a wide range of music from acoustic and covers to rap and edm, and when I tried out their Sudio Tre earphones I wasn’t so pleased with their bass as it wasn’t strong enough. Niva doesn’t have such a problem as the bass is definitely punchy enough which I usually use songs like “Lullaby” & “Look Alive Nevertheless, for the price the sound quality is definitely worth it’s price. Here comes to the part which I am having a love hate relationship, noise cancelling. When you play music you won’t be able to hear your surroundings at all, which is great especially when I want to be in my zone to work out and study. However they can be troublesome if you still want to hear what’s happening around you, but this is a minor drawback that I think it’s worth it when you get earphones which are good at noise cancellation. The sound quality and although the depth is lacking a bit for me but this is more of a personal preference as I like a wider range for my music.
Convenience
Being a wireless earphone is all about convenience, I no longer need to worry about a case to store my wired apple earphones, popping this into my bag before I rush off to class, training or meetings which definitely is a plus. My commutes and workout sessions need not have to have the distractions of those pesky wires tugging and tangling left right and center, I really dig this newfound freedom. However there’s this one small thing that bothers me is that the case is actually pretty bulky, especially when I am wearing pants which are a bit tighter or some pants which have a smaller pocket. It’s not that easy to slip into your pocket and even if you do there is going to be a bulge in your pants. It’s convenient but not that comfortable when you bring it out unless I bring a bag or wear my baggy sweatpants.
Verdict
Overall it’s a pretty neat wireless earphone, providing you with a minimalistic aesthetic which can easily complement most peoples styles. The sound quality, especially the bass of this earphones punches above it’s weight which makes up for the lack of depth. The only minor drawback is regarding the size of the case, which I think is not really a deal breaker and I have learnt to live with it after a while. Sudio has actually came out with a new wireless earphones on their website which is more convenient with a smaller case called the Sudio Tolv which I’m really looking forward to get my hands on.
