TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP

Updated: Apr 1, 2022

Happy New Year, and welcome back to my blog!!

So today the topic is about sleep, it is one thing as a college or university student can never get enough.

So if sleep is one thing you want to improve on in 2021, you're on on the right article!

I'm going to share with you 5 simple tips on how I get into the habit of sleeping and waking up early.

So before we get into it, we are looking to his 1k subs by this June so click on the subscribe button as I bring more tip and trick on how to improve your live one tiny step a time.

1. Your Coffee intake

  • No Caffeine after 3pm, that means no coffee, no energy drinks or anything that is too sugary that could keep you up awake because coffee has a half life of 5 hours means it stays in your body for that long and sugar is pure energy you know how it goes.

  • You want to get rid of any caffeine in your body by 10pm so that you can have a good night's sleep

2. Reduce your salt intake and don't eat too much for dinner

  • Try not to have a heavy dinner, I'm not telling you to eat less but just eat your portion. But you would tell me what if I'm hungry at night, I can't sleep leh..

  • That's the point, if you plan to sleep early around 10-11pm you wouldn't be hungry by then. If you are still really hungry, grabbing a biscuit or 2 before you sleep would be fine

  • I have found out that food with high salt content or MSG affects my sleep. High salt intake increases your blood pressure and fluid retention, making your body super dehydrated and yo will feel super groggy in the morning.

3. Have a good wind down routine

One trick is to work out in the evening before dinner, you know the feeling of lying down when you muscles are sore, that is like the best thing ever and definitely lets you sleep like a log

Another thing that you can try is to have a good wind down routine where you chill, read a book, connect with your family or plan for the next day. Mainly what you want to do is calm your mind down, and anticipate the next day.

4. Motivate your mornings

  • Most people recommend that you have a strict morning routine such as no phone right after you wake up or like straight away go exercise right after you wake up, it is not really appealing to your brain as we like short term gratification

  • Do something you like first thing when you wake up, such as you get to eat that chocolate bar of yours, read a book you always wanted to finish, work on your passion project for like half an hour or one hour. Then only go work on your tough tasks for the day

  • This gives you the extra motivation to wake up early and then also gives you the momentum to complete the harder task in the day.

5. Keep yourself accountable

  • Let someone know that you want to culture this habit, and keep you accountable throughout the first month and see if this habit works for you. From a productivity standpoint, everyone works differently so it's good to try and adjust your schedule to one which you work better.

  • If you want me to wake you up at a certain time and keep you accountable too just hit me up and I'll be the one bugging you to wake up in the morning!

That's it these are the 5 simple tips that could help you sleep earlier, better and also wake up earlier.
